Marielle Leon is a Mixbook blogger who lives just north of San Francisco in a sweet little home beneath a grove of redwood trees. Within its walls reside two wild boys, a compulsively tidy husband and an alpha-dog of a cat who’s known for throwing his significant weight around. Born of her dedication to living large with a small footprint, she’s gone digital with everything from curating photos (she’s a pro Mixbooker!) to tracking recipes to curb the clutter. She brings us weekly posts that share what keeps her grounded as a mother, a writer, a cook and an athlete—all while keeping her bountiful sources of inspiration off the floor and up in the clouds where they should be. Kids’ forts are so very cool, yet such a royal mess. Fort-building is one of many conundrums I’ve come across as a parent. On the one hand, I know that making a fort is one of the best activities my kids can undertake to keep active, develop creativity, hone spatial awareness, understand the laws of [...]

Back in the day when getting in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day meant breaking out my beloved green corduroys, feasting on corned beef and cabbage for dinner, and drinking Guinness with friends, I was an avid fan of the holiday. Since having children, however, the kitchy side of St. Patty’s Day has soured me [...]

A picture may be worth a thousand words, but here at Mixbook we recognize that it’s words, not pictures, that people live by. I won’t be making a different breakfast [...]

Let’s face it, without Valentine’s Day, February looks pretty drab. To that we say, don your proverbial rose-colored glasses and invite a few sets of friends over for a Valentine’s Day party full of love-themed snacks and crafts. Start by converting a Valentine’s Day card into a party invitation, and encourage guests to wear their hearts [...]

There’s nothing more satisfying than getting crafty with edibles. Concocting condiments, infusing spirits, baking bread, canning veggies, making fresh cheese, or simply piecing together a meal from start to finish with your own bare hands feels incredibly rewarding. And while I very much admire the groovy moms out there who make their own Kefir, pickle [...]

Let the countdown begin! The big game is less than two weeks away—time to start planning your Super Bowl party menu! Giants v. Patriots—it’s going to be awesome… Okay, fine. I can’t fake it. Truth be told, we Mixbookers are big Niners fans and it stings that they’re not Super Bowl bound. Me, I’m a fair-weather [...]
