Video Tutorial: How to Upload Photos from Facebook

by

Picture this. Your BFF’s b-day is coming up in a few weeks (thanks for the heads-up, Facebook!) and you want to create a photo book on Mixbook full of heartwarming photos of the two of you together to give to her as a birthday gift. Great idea (we think she’ll adore and treasure it forever)! But wait. The memory card inside your digital camera doesn’t house any images from the wedding in which you were both bridesmaids last year.

Don’t despair! This is where Facebook comes in. No doubt there are entire albums full of photos featuring the affair, uploaded to Facebook by wedding guests, groomsmen, the shutter-happy Mother of the Bride, etc. Jackpot! All the pictures you need to create a beautiful Mixbook are available at the tips of your fingers (try our AutoMix magic wand tool to instantly populate your entire Mixbook with photos). How? View our fun tutorial video or read the below instructions to discover how to populate your Mixbook with your (and friends’) Facebook photos!

A popular question we receive is how to upload your Facebook photos into your Mixbook project. Once you have your project open, click on the “ADD PHOTOS” button from the photos tab. In the window that pops up, click on “Import Photos” and then “Facebook” from the left-hand side. Clicking “CONNECT” will open up a pop up window. Log into your Facebook account.

Once you have clicked the “Log In” button, the page will reload telling you to close this window. Close this window and return to our editor. You will notice that the button has now turned into a “Continue” button. Clicking on this will get you to your photos.

From here, you can select different friends, and then select the album from which you would like to retrieve your photos. Choose the photos you would like to upload, click on “Add Selected Photos”, and they will be automatically entered into your photo tray. Please note that if their privacy settings are set to private, our editor will not be allowed to access those photos.

Hope this helps!

I would love it if we could mix thepages from one album with another. So for example. Is it possible to a few pages from the Halloween books mixed with some Thanksgiving. Then Christmas pages? I have not found a way to bring pages from other designed books to a different book. I scrapbook the months so it would be nice to have the option or picking the theme pages!.

Elle Daquioag February 2, 2012 at 9:54 am

Hi Diana,
You can definitely mix and match your themes to make the perfect book! To do so, you will need to first open your project in the Mixbook Editor. Once the Editor opens, you will see a “Change Theme” button at the top. Click on this button to access a window where you can scroll through the different themes we offer. Once you have found the one you like, click on the project then click the orange/yellow “Change Theme” button. This will change the theme of your project.

Please note that changing your theme does not change your whole book, but it does change the selection of layouts, backgrounds, and stickers that you can apply to the book. When you first change your theme, your existing pages will appear to look the same. You can apply layouts from your new theme by selecting the page from the bottom page preview bar, then clicking the “Layouts” tab in the top left corner of the editor. The first section of layouts that appears (“Theme Pages”) will be the layouts from your new themes. Clicking on one of these themes will apply your layout to your page. We hope this helps! If you have any further questions, feel free to e-mail us at support@mixbook.com!

Why can’t I upload photos from my computer? I click on “Add Photos” and “Upload photos” then another window opens. When I click on “upload photos” nothing happens.

Elle Daquioag February 13, 2012 at 9:40 am

Hi Sophia,
Once you click on the Upload Photos button, a window should appear allowing you to access the files from your computer. Select the photos and click the Open button. This should start the photo upload. If this is not occurring, you may need to update your Flash Player. You can do so by visiting: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ We hope this helps!

I will not be buying the groupon nor be using the website again. It’s been fifteen hours and my photos have not completely uploaded. I’ve already completed the album and cannot cancell the upload of the remainding photos. Very frustrating. I also have tried to order the completed album, and after almost 3 hours, there has been no progress, and there is no bar or anything showing the progress of the order. At this point I am fed up.

been trying for 2 days to upload a single photo from my macs hard drive with zero success….very very frustrating. Either I am doing something wrong (wouldnt know becuase the only tutorial is to upload from facebook) or theres a problem with mixbook (and yes I have the current flash player). I left it ‘uploading’ all night and not a single picture uploaded. I tried uploading one at a time even. Seems I am not the only one based on comments from Sophia and Kim. Not impressed.

Why can’t I just drag a photo from the tray and drop it on the page I want to put it on?? I haven’t gotten past my book’s cover because I can’t figure out how to put the picture on! Adding text is easy – there’s a box that says “add text.” This is frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mary February 26, 2012 at 6:10 am

Is there a way to add the drop photo here to customized layouts? Similar to the premade themes where you may have a frame created by stickers and there is the drop photo that puts the picture into that frame. Thanks for the help.

Carolyn C February 27, 2012 at 12:40 pm

Same problem as Lisa G and Mary. How do I get photos that I uploaded onto an album without using autofill? I am completely stuck!

Elle Daquioag February 27, 2012 at 1:07 pm

Hi Lisa, Mary and Carolyn,
It appears that an update to your Flash Player is needed. You can update Flash by visiting: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

If you have updated the Flash player and it is still not working correctly, please try and clear internet browser’s cache. The instructions on how to do this for your particular browser can be found here:

Internet Explorer: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278835

FireFox: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20clear%20the%20cache

Chrome: http://www.google.com/support/chrome/bin/answer.py?answer=95582

Safari: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Safari/5.0/en/11471.html

If you are still having difficulties, we would also recommend trying a different browser. Thank you for your patience, and we hope that this helps. If you are still experiencing the same issue, please contact us again and we will continue to help troubleshoot.

Elle Daquioag February 27, 2012 at 1:15 pm

Hi Mary,
We currently do not have that option, but will definitely pass this along to our engineering team. Please let us know if you have any further ideas! :)

I am unable to access my picasa photos. Have waited and waited. I seem to be locked into a circle with no exit. My groupon will expire before I have time to make my book as I cannot access my photos. I began trying more than a week ago. I am very frustrated!

Laura March 5, 2012 at 10:08 am

When I try to upload my photos from Facebook, I click Connect, the Facebook website log in page pops up, I log in, and it immediately goes to my news feed instead of telling me to close the page. When I go back to Mixbook and click on Continue, nothing happens but the button immediately changes back to Connect. How can I fix this?

Elle Daquioag March 5, 2012 at 3:37 pm

Hi Lynne,
Would you be able to try downloading the newest version of Flash to your computer? You can do so by visiting: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

If you have updated the Flash player and it is still not working correctly, please try and clear internet browser’s cache. The instructions on how to do this for your particular browser can be found here:

Internet Explorer: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278835

Safari: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Safari/5.0/en/11471.html

If you are still having difficulties, we would also recommend trying a different browser. If none of these solutions help, please e-mail support@mixbook.com or come onto Live Chat so that our tech team can better troubleshoot the issue. Thank you!

I am trying to download pictures off of facebook from a Group that we created. We have approximately 500 plus photo’s on there and I am an administrator. When I go to upload photo’s I can’t bring up a group, just my friends pages along with my own. Any suggestions on how I can get these photo’s uploaded. We started individual albums under this group for a Family Memory book…. help…this is way to many photo’s to have to start over. Any help would be appreciated.

Elle Daquioag March 6, 2012 at 9:01 am

Hi Michele,
At this time, our editor can only pull from albums of friends on Facebook, not groups. We do apologize about that inconvenience and will definitely pass this feedback along to our engineering team! May we suggest moving the photos to personal albums? Once the photos have been moved, you should then be able to access them through our Facebook feature. Facebook has instructions on how to do this here. Hope this helps!

Elle Daquioag March 6, 2012 at 9:04 am

Hi Laura,
May we ask that you try clearing your browser’s cache? The instructions on how to do this for your particular browser can be found here:

Hi,

When using it, the pictures came up and I could highlight them, but there was no where for me to select to add them to the picture tray :( . I am using firefox.

Elle Daquioag March 20, 2012 at 3:44 pm

Hi Sam,
You may need to update your Flash Player and try again. You can do so by visiting: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ This should allow you to click on the photos and hit the Add Selected button. If this does not work, we would suggest trying another browser before contacting support@mixbook.com. If an alternate browser does not solve the issue, please e-mail us so our tech team can further trouble shoot the issue. Thank you and Happy Mixbooking!

Robin Sue April 6, 2012 at 6:31 pm

Can upload photos from some of my friends Facebook pages but not others. Why is that?

Mixbook Customer Care Team April 7, 2012 at 12:14 pm

Hi Robin!

If your friends have their Facebook albums set to private, we will not be able to access them. If you would like to use your friend’s Facebook photos, please have them set their album to public and that way we’ll be able to pull the pictures into the Mixbook Editor! Alternatively, you can save those photos to your computer and uploaded them directly to the Mixbook Editor! Whenever possible, we recommend using original photo files and not the compressed photographs uploaded to Facebook. We hope this helps!

Cheers!
Theresa

The Mixbook Editor won’t open. It says it’s fetching my project, but never opens. I am just beginning a new book so I don’t have anything to fetch except the blank theme and the editor. It just sits there forever. I’ve waited 30 minutes for it to open.

I’ve bought one book and love it. I want to make another one, but if the editor is going to be this difficult or slllllooooowwwwwww, I can’t wait forever for the editor to open.

I even updated my flash player… I’ll go see if there’s an update for Java consol, but I’m outta here if it’s going to be so slow.

Elle Daquioag May 5, 2012 at 8:23 pm

Hi Ellen,
If you’ve already updated your Flash Player and relaunched the site, and the editor still isn’t loading, you may need to clear your browser’s cache. Click on your browser name for directions on how to clear your cache: Internet Explorer, FireFox, Chrome, Safari.

If you continue to experience difficulties, would you be able to try launching the Mixbook editor in another Internet browser? Please let us know if you continue to experience this by emailing support@mixbook.com with a screenshot of the error, as this will help us troubleshoot. We hope clearing your cache resolves the issue!

Amber May 9, 2012 at 12:01 pm

Hi,

When I try to drop my photos into the layout on the right page, they don’t “drop”. Instead it just creates a new spot for itself and messes up the layout. Why is this happening? How can I fix it?

Mixbook Customer Care Team May 9, 2012 at 2:16 pm

Hi Amber,
To add a photo to your book, just drag the photo from the photo tray and place the photo where you want it to be in your book.
You can click and drag a photo from the photo tray in the “Photos” tab into an existing photo slot that says “Drop Photo Here” or on top of an existing photo. The photo frame will highlight to a light orange hue to let you know that the picture is in the correct insert area. Drop your photo in this area to add it to the photo slot and apply the sizing and rotation settings of the slot to your image. If you delete the photo slot by accident, you can re-add it by re-selecting the layout you were using from the Layout Tab. However, this will reset your whole page back to this design, so this method is not recommended if you’ve made any formatting changes to your page that you’d like to keep.
We hope this helps! Please feel free to message us at support@mixbook.com if you have any additional questions, comments, or concerns, and we’d be happy to help! :)
Best Regards,
Veronica

Ellen May 9, 2012 at 4:41 pm

I had the same problem… If you hover your photo over the photo ‘place’ and wait for it to highlight, then it will drop in the ‘frame’.
